For more than 90 years the American Legion has been the leading advocate for veteran health care and benefits. The Legion was instrumental in the creation of the Veterans Administration and is working to improve civilian life for America's veterans. We are constantly striving to ensure better treatment for our male and female veterans. We understand that not all wounds are visible and are working to secure funding to provide treatment for veterans suffering from these "silent" wounds. For more than 90 years the American Legion has been the leading advocate for veteran health care and benefits.
Every member of the American Legion has sworn an oath to protect and defend this country against all enemies. This nation’s security is a deeply held value within the American Legion. The events of Sept. 11, 2001 have shown that at no time should national security not be foremost on everyone’s mind. Legionnaires are vigilant in their scrutiny of legislation at all levels of government to ensure this nation’s security is always protected.
Whether it's protecting the flag from desecration, reinstating the pledge of allegiance in public schools, protecting the word God on public monuments and buildings, or ensuring immigration laws are not being ignored, the American Legion has always been a champion for traditional American values. We believe in America and proudly do what we can to pass that belief on to the next generation. Through education, activism, legislation, and leading by example, the American Legion wants to build a sense of pride in America within every citizen.
Whether it's Legion baseball, Boys State/Nation, junior shooting sports, financial relief for families of veterans, scholarships, or any of the other numerous programs and activities provided by the American Legion, since our creation in 1919 we have always had the best interests of this country’s youth at heart. Each year legionnaires give thousands of dollars and countless hours to help today’s youth have a brighter tomorrow. We do this so that every child has a promising future. Because in the Legion we believe that tomorrow’s leaders are out there today. If we can influence them in a positive way, then the future is more positive.
